WILLIAM ROBY Obituary
June 7, 1929 - Aug 9, 2014 OKLAHOMA CITY William Eugene "Bill" Roby, 85, passed away August 9, 2014, with his family by his side. Bill was born on June 7, 1929, in Watertown, SD to Mr. and Mrs. R.J. Roby. Bill was the youngest of nine children. He left school at the age of 17 to join the Army and was honorably discharged in December 1947. He returned home to Watertown, where he began a long career in the automobile industry - first, as a car salesman and then, with General Motors Corporation. He worked with Oldsmobile in Minneapolis as District Manager and was transferred to Oklahoma. Bill married Barbara Algoren Stober in 1976. He worked his way up to Assistant Zone Manager before he retired from Oldsmobile in 1984. He spent his retirement by starting up Business Management Consultants Inc. in 1987, heading up the Metropolitan Automobile Dealers Association, putting on the annual Oklahoma City auto show, travelling and taking cruises, while still finding time to go fishing, hunting and playing golf. He finally retired for good in 1990. He loved his family and grandkids, his dogs, cooking, playing cards, challenging relatives to cribbage and being a loving caregiver to his wife until her death in 2013. Bill is survived by children, Billie Joan McQuistan, grandchildren, Joseph and Daniel, four great-grandchildren; David Roby; Louise Roby-Dorman and husband Joe, grandchildren, Josie and Lacey, and eight great-grandchildren; Lynn Morrison, grandchildren, Anthony and Brandon, three great-grandchildren; and stepchildren, Scott Stober and wife Kimberly, grandchildren, Christina, Peter, and Constance; and Janet Stober-Beck and husband Bruce, grandchildren, Jason and Brian; along with brothers, Joe, Ray, and Tom. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; and siblings, Inez Dugan, Richard Roby, Harriet Miller, Bernadette Miller, and Claire ("Buz") Roby. A memorial service to celebrate Bill's life will be held 10 a.m. Friday, August 22, 2014, at United Methodist Church of the Servant.
