Dec 18, 1929 - Sept 27, 2013 BETHANY Vernes "Vern" Penner, 83, of Bethany, OK, was born in Colony, OK on Dec. 18, 1929, to Jacob H. and Helena E. Schellenberg Penner. Vern went home to be with the Lord on Sept. 27, 2013. He grew up on a farm in Corn, OK, where he attended school to the 8th grade, leaving school to help his parents farm. He served in the Army for two years. Afterward, he attended barber college and barbered for five years in Weatherford, OK. He spent the remainder of his career as a carpenter to the age of 80. Vern was preceded in death by his parents; and six siblings, Daniel Penner, Alvina Fleming, Menno Penner, Elmer Penner, Hannah Penner, and John Penner. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Estella June Newlon Penner; their three daughters and their families: Sheryl D. and Dave Hatch, of Arkansas; Karen S. and Terry Carr, of Iowa; and Vonda K. and Ron Walkup, of Warr Acres, OK; one brother, Wilbur Penner, of Oklahoma City; sister, Esther Petty, of California; seven grandchildren, Katie, Michele, Hannah, Austin, Jacob, Joey, and Mary; and one great-grandson, Matthew. Vern was a devoted husband and father and will be missed deeply. Visitation will be held 10 a.m. - 9 p.m., with family greeting friends 6-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30.
