Kountze, Elizabeth Maenner "Betts"

Elizabeth Maenner Kountze "Betts" died peacefully at her Osterville, MA home on Cape Cod on March 30, 2013, surrounded by family and loved ones. She was 89. Born Elizabeth Caroline Maenner on November 12, 1923 in Omaha, NE, she was the youngest daughter of Gladys and Theodore H. Maenner. Betts was pre-deceased by her older sister Mary Maenner Bowie; and younger brother Jack Maenner, both of Omaha. Betts attended Washington Elementary School, Central High School, and Northwestern University, where she was Empress of the Navy Ball in 1944. Betts sang beautifully, adored reading and antiquing, and loved her children and grandchildren dearly. Betts married Mallory Kountze on February 7, 1948 at First Presbyterian Church in Omaha, and the couple honeymooned in Cuba. Mallory Kountze died October 17, 1984 in Omaha. Surviving family include daughter, Mary Mallory Baer (Bob); son, Neely Kountze (Mary); and grandchildren, Bart Jennings, Tower Kountze, Will Jennings, Lizzie Kountze, and Molly Jennings. She is also survived by step-grandchildren, Barrett Braithwaite, Rob Baer, Anne Baer; step-great grandchild, Clara Braithwaite; and her favorite cousin, Bob Thurmond.
There will be a GRAVESIDE MEMORIAL at 11am Friday, May 24, 2013, at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Omaha.
