Formerly of South Sioux City, NE, died Thursday, December 27, 2012, in Elkhorn, NE. He was born May 14, 1918, in Wayne, NE to E.E. and Faye (Laub) Fleetwood. Fleet was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Greenland during World War II. While serving in the army, he married Janet Coe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S.S. Coe, Sioux City, IA, on December 26, 1944. Fleet graduated from Wayne State College in 1940. He continued his studies after the war at UCLA and received his Masters degree in music from the University of Colorado. An avid musician, he formed dance bands in high school, college and the army. After the war he taught music in Nebraska, gave private lessons for years, and worked in Iowa civil service. Preceded in death by wife, Janet. Survived by children Douglas (Susan) Fleetwood, Omaha; Diane (Jim) Mayfield, Louisville, NE, Susan Silva, Ocala, FL; grandchildren Jason Silva, Ocala, FL, Mike Silva, Washington, DC, Stephanie Mayfield Fatemi, and Michelle Mayfield Fatemi, Lincoln, NE, Alysia Mayfield Augustus, Omaha; and six great-grandchildren. Fleet moved to Omaha in 2005 to be closer to his children and resided in an assisted living facility until his death. Fleet especially enjoyed spending time with his loved ones and will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
