Mr. Lowell Albert Ellison, 89, died peacefully on July 18, 2014, at Clare Bridge Senior Living in Virginia Beach, Va.
Mr. Ellison was born in Chester County on Dec. 28, 1924, and was a son to the late Willie B. and Lula Mae Jacobs Ellison. Lowell graduated from Great Falls High School and entered the Army. A veteran of WWII, Mr. Ellison was honored with the Award of the Distinguished-Flying Cross. Following his military service, Lowell attended Clemson University and graduated with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering. Lowell then moved to Virginia and started a successful family business, Falcon Construction Company. Many of the workers affectionately call Lowell "Chief" or "Red" because of his red hair. Lowell liked to garden, tinker in his workshop, but most importantly, he loved to spend time with his family. Lowell said that if you invest in your loved ones, you'll always be rich. Lowell was a rich man! And he enriched all who were a part of his life through his love and support. Lowell was a devoted husband, proud father, brother, uncle and friend.
Those left to cherish Lowell's memories are his daughters, Hope Ellison and Faith McMillin (husband Bruce, granddaughters Marissa and Hannah), all of Virginia Beach, Va., and Renee Roddey McGrath (husband Brian) of Penn Valley, Calif.; sisters, Plumie E. Roddey of Great Falls and Clennie E. Curtis (nephew Gary Ellis) of Lugoff, S.C.; nephew Fred Killian (wife Elisha, great-nephew Fred Jr.) of Virginia; as well as many other family and friends.
Mr. Ellison was preceded in death by his first wife, Corene Campbell Ellison; and his second wife of 56 years, Rosa Lee Mullins Ellison. Mr. Ellison was also preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Kathleen Rabon, Zadie Neely, Emily Rushing, Burley Roddey, Gladys Mitkus and Gertie Smith; and brothers, Lenzie Ellisor and Rembert Ellisor.
A Memorial Service to honor the life of Lowell Ellison will be held on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014, at 3 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church in Great Falls. Officiating will be the Rev. Patrick Blackmon. The family will receive friends from 2:15 to 3 p.m. prior to the service in the Trinity Baptist Church sanctuary.
