For God. For Country. For Family.
Bill Christian fought valiantly throughout his life. Serving bravely with the 596th Airborne Engineering Company as a paratrooper during WWII in the US Army he made multiple combat jumps and earned both a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Upon graduation from the University of Dayton in 1952 with a bachelor's of education degree Bill began his career, married and created a strong family legacy built through a unique blend of Christian values and sarcasm. A lifelong athlete and avid gardener kept Bill in shape and rarely a weekend went by where he wasn't outside doing what he loved. Bill gave generously of his time and talents throughout his 89 years supporting Big Brothers, coaching various youth athletics, "bossing" people around as director of facilities at KCET studios for over 20 years and in later years volunteering tirelessly organizing the West Coast reunion for the Paratroopers 517th and at Western Medical Hospital. Bill was blessed to be able to be involved both with the Catholic and Greek Orthodox Churches. His friends will remember his great sense of humor and willing helping hand. That sense of loyal service to family, friends and the Lord we know will continue in the Kingdom to come.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sophia; three children, Lynn, Bill and Nitsa, their spouses Nick, Sara and Chuck; and four grandchildren, Philip, Natalie, Eleni and Thomas.
Services will be held at Holy Family on October 2, 2013 at 12:10pm.
