CHARLES SMITH Obituary
Smith, Charles Vinton (Chuck),

greatly loved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 30th in Murrieta, California. He was surrounded by his loving wife and family during his last days. Chuck was born on July 21, 1932 in Frankfort, Ohio to Vinton and Bernice Smith. He was an Ohio farm boy who grew up to positively impact the lives of thousands in his positions as Orange County Supervisor (First District) , Mayor of Westminster, and founding chairman of the Children and Families Commission of Orange County.He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1950 - 1954, being promoted to Tech Sergeant, and served honorably in the Korean War. He graduated from Ohio State University with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering and completed some post-graduate work at UCLA.Chuck was employed for 32 years at Rockwell International in Anaheim as an engineer.

Chuck was an active member of many Orange County organizations. He was a past president of the Westminster Lions Club, a founding member (with his wife Nancy) of the Westminster Community Theatre, a former member of the Elks and Kiwanis, a life member of the Masons, and an active member of Shelter for the Homeless. He also coached basketball, T-Ball, and baseball when his children were young. He had an immense quest for knowledge and a zest for living.Every moment of his life was lived with purpose and the desire to make a difference. He loved reading, traveling, golfing,fishing, and more than anything loved spending time with his family.

Chuck married Nancy on April 9, 1960 in Augusta, Maine. He and Nancy enjoyed 52 years of marriage, sharing an amazing life together. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy; daughter, Robin Summers (Richard) of Denver, Colorado; son, Jeffrey Smith (Shelly) of Murrieta, California; daughter, Stacy Munoz (Tony) of Round Rock, Texas, and son, Scott Smith (Kristin) of Gallatin, Tennessee. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren; as well as his two brothers, Bob Smith (Melanie) of London, Ohio and John Smith(Sally) of Asheville, North Carolina, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 14th at 12 noon at the Westminster Rose Center, 14140 All American Way, Westminster, CA, 92683. A reception will be held at the same location, immediately following the service. A private burial ceremony with military honors will be held at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, CA on Monday, October, 15th.
