Obituary Condolences

Campbell, Donald W., of Seal Beach, died Sunday morning, November 11, Veterans Day. As a Veteran of World War II, Korea and Viet Nam, this date was most fitting. Don was a 26 year career Air Force Officer who retired as a Lt. Colonel. Don was married for 44 years to the former Patty Peppard of Hawthorne, New York. They have 3 children: Donald Jr., Nancy Byrne and Wendy Campbell and 5 grandchildren: Aidan, Declan, Ciaran and Liam Byrne, and Georgiana Campbell. He was previously married and had 4 daughters: Cindy Power, Debbie Zerbe, Pattie Coleman and Libby Gangemi and 6 grandchildren: Chris and Jaclyn Power, Jesse and Jimmy Coleman, Becky Smith and Xander Gangemi. Born in Los Angeles on September 2, 1925, he was the son of the late Willard and Martha Sabicer Campbell; his sister, Shirley predeceased him. Don was a graduate of Los Angeles High School, the University of Washington and Purdue University where he obtained Bachelors and Masters degrees, respectively, in Civil Engineering. He entered the Army Air Corps right after high school and served in the South Pacific where he was a navigator on PBY Catalinas and B-17's. After graduation from Purdue, his military career took him all over this country, Europe and Southeast Asia. His last duty station was at the Pentagon, on the Joint Chiefs of Staff, in Washington, DC. He later worked for Hughes Aircraft until his second retirement. He and Patty are 42-year residents of Seal Beach, where they raised their family. Visitation will be Friday, November 16 at Fairhaven Memorial Park in Santa Ana, from 4 to 8 pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 17, at St. Hedwig Church, Los Alamitos at 10:30 am. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P. O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
