GEORGE STUART SMILEY Obituary
Smiley, George Stuart, of Anaheim, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2013. George was born on February 17, 1930, in Davenport, Iowa. In his youth he developed a love for golf and for playing the clarinet that lasted all of his life. He graduated from the University of Iowa where he was an active Sigma Chi Fraternity member. After serving honorably in the United States Air Force during the Korean war, George moved to the San Francisco area where he completed law school and joined the California State Bar. George moved to Orange County in 1963 and began a legal career that spanned nearly 50 years. He loved the practice of law because he was able to help people and he became friends with many excellent attorneys and judges. For many years George played the clarinet for the Fullerton College Community Band where he developed treasured relationships. In his later years George followed in his father's footsteps and became an avid bridge player, participating in groups in Costa Mesa and Anaheim. George was a devoted father to his two children, Ellen Elizabeth Smiley of North Tustin and Brian George Smiley of Sacramento. He is also survived by daughter-in-law, Lisa Michele Smiley, and his two grandsons, whom he adored, David George Smiley and Jonathan Evan Smiley. George was a longtime member of the church family at the First Presbyterian Church of Garden Grove, 11832 Euclid Street, where a celebration of his life will be held on March 27, 2013, at 11 a.m.
