GRETCHEN KRIECHBAUM LETSON-RASK Obituary
Letson-Rask, Gretchen Kriechbaum, died on March 19, 2014, of complications arising from previously undiagnosed metastatic lung cancer. She was born on April 28, 1931, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was raised there and after being named valedictorian as well as Most Athletic at Washburn High School, attended the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1952. She married Richard Alan Letson, her high school sweetheart, that year, and they made their homes in Levittown, New York, and Phoenix, Arizona, before settling in Southern California. Gretchen worked as a bacteriologist, then obtained her CPA and became a Certified Financial Planner. She pursued accounting at several places, including the company Richard founded, Pacific Communications, Inc., in Santa Ana. Richard died in 1982, and Gretchen re-connected with another Minnesotan, D. Peter Rask; the couple married in 1992. They lived happily in Dana Point, CA, and enjoyed life, golf, and travel together. Gretchen is survived by her husband, Peter, of Dana Point; her two daughters, Jaye (Janet) Letson Hungar of McLean, VA, and Susan Letson McVey of Pollock Pines, CA, their husbands, and six grandchildren; as well as three stepsons, John Rask and Dan Rask of Albuquerque, NM, and Will Rask of San Diego, CA, and their wives and two grandsons. Gretchen will be remembered for her intelligence, athletic ability, wit, and generosity. Donations may be made to the Salvation Army, Homeboy Industries, or Philharmonic Society of Orange County. The family will hold a memorial service at a future date; if interested, please indicate in online guest book or via Gretchen's Facebook page.
