Burke, Joan (Margaret), died on March 23, 2013. Joan was born in Ishpeming, Michigan on September 18, 1933 to Thomas and Albertine Mylott and was raised in Prairieview, Illinois. She attended Loretto Heights College in Denver graduating in 1954 with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and went on to attend the University of Washington conducting doctoral research in Biochemistry. |
It was while at the UW she met her future husband, John. They married in 1957 and lived in Santa Monica and in El Paso, TX followed by a five-years in Germany and Italy before finally settling in Anaheim, CA in 1963. They were members of St. Anthony Claret and St. Boniface Parishes.
Joan served as an official for swimming and synchronized swimming for the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. At St. Boniface, Joan was very involved in the scouting programs, Respect Life and Right to Life committees, and various other groups. In the 1980's, Joan became a Real Estate agent working for Realty World before becoming a broker and opening A+ Burke Realty. She also became active in local politics and was an elected member of the O.C. GOP committee.
Joan and John traveled extensively in the past 15 years visiting all seven continents and the major rivers of the world.
Joan is survived by her husband of 55 years, John; their children, Thomas (Eileen) of Rio Rancho, NM, Ann (Jay) of Kirkland, WA, Michael (Svetlana) of Redmond, WA, Brian (Katie) of Seattle, WA and Laura of Anaheim, CA; and 11 grandchildren.
The vigil service for Joan will be held on Monday, April 1st from 6-8pm with a rosary starting at 7:00 at Hilgenfeld's Mortuary in Anaheim. Her funeral will be held at St. Boniface Church in Anaheim on Tuesday, April 2nd at 10 AM.
