Walz, Joan Marie, passed away December 7, 2013 at the age of 81. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Don Walz; children, John Walz, Donna Walz, Cara Graves; and four grandchildren.|
Joan was a long time resident of Hayward, Fountain Valley and San Juan Capistrano, California. She was born in Cicero, Illinois and received her nursing degree at James Ward Thorne School of Nursing at Northwestern University. She practiced as a Registered Nurse in Chicago, San Francisco and Southern California. During the Korean War era Joan served as a flight nurse for the Military Air Transport Service (MATS) transporting military families to and from Asia and Europe for four years.
Joan participated in various Respect Life programs since 1972. She was a parishioner of St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, Dana Point for 18 years and also was a parishioner at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fountain Valley for 22 years. She enjoyed many close friendships during those 40 years.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, 33926 Calle La Primavera, Dana Point on Saturday, January 4th, 2014 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, Joan's family requests that any donations be made for the children, born and unborn, at Birth Choice and Mary's Shelter.
