Born December 9, 1925 to parents Edward Victor and Dorothy Phyllis Craik in Lancashire, England. June met and fell in love with her future husband, Lloyd, when he was stationed in the area as an aircraft mechanic in the Army Air Force during World War II. At the age of 20, she arrived in New York on August 28, 1946 on the Cape Alava passenger ship. After a three-day cross-country train ride, she arrived in Southern California. A week later, on September 7, 1946, she married Lloyd Burton Steele in Anaheim, California. They were married 66 years.
She was a homemaker as her husband worked for Pacific Telephone in Southern California. Her first home was in Compton where her daughters, Pamela Susan and Catherine Ann were born. The family moved to Anaheim where her daughter, Sandra Lynn was born. The family moved to Riverside for two years and then Pacific Beach for 5 years. In 1964, the family moved to Orange where they lived for 45 years.
June was a board member of Alta Vista Lady's Golf Club in Anaheim, was a member of Lazy B Golf Club and volunteered at Western Medical Hospital for several years. She participated in an English Club in Orange County and was a breast cancer survivor. She was a talented painter and seamstress, a dog and cat lover, and enjoyed reading, Hand and Foot, and trivia games. Her many travels included the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, Mexico, Canada, Hawaii and Mediterranean and Panama Canal cruises.
She is survived by her husband, Lloyd Steele of Escondido; brothers, Don and Peter Craik of England; daughters and their husbands, Pam and Gary Leander of Oceanside, Cathy and Ken Kerl of Pine Valley and Sandi and Bill Spivey of Laguna Niguel; along with eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
