Joe C. "Jo Jo" Gomez Obituary
Gomez , Joe C. "Jo Jo"

July 2, 1938 - October 21, 2013

Lifelong Placentia resident, Joe Gomez, passed away at home surrounded by family. Born at home to Maria and Domingo Gomez, he was one of 12 children. Joe is survived by his siblings Peter, Robert, Jesse, Pauline and Irene. He is also survived by wife, Becky; children, Joey and Rosie; grandchildren, Megan and Travis (his wife, Katie); many nieces and nephews and extended family.

He was married to wife Becky for 55 years. They went everywhere together and had a passion for gardening and created an amazing yard. Joe and Becky had two children and worked hard to provide for their family.

He took pride in knowing that his daughter worked with children and used her Spanish at her job.

His grandchildren were the light of his life. He couldn't do enough for them. He was proud of their many accomplishments. He spent as much time with them as possible and watched them grow into successful adults.

Joe was known for his sense of humor, jokes, tricks, love of all types of music and artistic talent. He also had an incredibly green thumb. His yard was a gathering place for many 4th of July/birthday parties, receptions and family gatherings. It was a tranquil and spiritual place for him, especially towards the end of his life.

A diehard Valencia Tiger and UCLA fan, he supported many sports at VHS, especially track, cross country and football. He attended games for his beloved Bruins and Tigers, until his illness prevented him from going. Friends and family would often call him during the games to share the scores. He worked as a Sheet Metal Foreman for 35 years. His son opened a restaurant in Downtown Fullerton and named it Joe's. He enjoyed taking friends there, especially when Joey played the piano and sang with the bands.

His wishes were to not have a formal funeral. In his honor, donations may be sent to Valencia's Cross Country Program because his son, Joey, excelled in both Cross Country and Track. Donations can be made to: Valencia High School (in memory of Joe Gomez) Valencia High School, 500 N. Bradford Ave., Placentia, CA 92870 Attn: Cross Country Program.
