Long-time Long Beach State Men's Water Polo head coach, Ken Lindgren died suddenly on Friday, October 11th of an unexpected heart attack. Ken was the head coach of the Men's Water Polo team for 24 years and he won Olympic Medals as the USA coach with both Men's and Women's Water Polo, he is the only coach to ever accomplish this. Lindgren was inducted into the USA Water Polo Hall of Fame in 1993, and was a 1991 inductee into the Long Beach State Hall of Fame.
During his 24 years as the head coach at Long Beach State, Lindgren coached 34 all-Americans and 8 Olympic Team members.
Outside of his coaching duties, Lindgren also spent over three decades teaching Mathematics. Ken also loved to water and snow ski.
Ken is survived by his wife, Jackie; brother, Jim; sister-in-law, Jan and their children Jenny, Julie and Jeff along with their families.
While he will be greatly missed, we are confident he has claimed his ever-lasting reward.
A celebration of Ken's life will be held at Rose Hills Memorial Park on Wednesday, October 23 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sky Rose Chapel. A viewing will be held on October 22 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a gift to the Ken Lindgren Scholarship Fund at CSULB to benefit the Water Polo Program and Mathematics Department. A check should be made payable to CSULB 49er Foundation and mailed to CSULB 49er Foundation, 6033 E. State University Drive, Suite 332, Long Beach, CA 90815. Please note in the memo section of the check to designate "Ken Lindgren Scholarship Fund."
