Barter, LeRoy D., Electrical Engineer, died Wednesday October 23, 2013, of natural causes at his daughter's home in Vancouver WA. Mr. Barter was born June 30, 1919, on Mt. Omei Sichuan Province, China, to Dr. Angus J Barter and Katie Rebecca Gould Barter, medical missionaries with the Canadian Methodist Church. Mr. Barter graduated from University of Washington, Seattle with degrees in Electrical Engineering. In 1947, Mr. Barter married Isabel C. Barter. This union lasted over 60 years until Isabel's death in 2008. Mr. Barter worked for Victor Adding Machine in Chicago, Illinois and then Beckman Instruments, Inc. After retiring from Beckman he moved to Vancouver, WA. Wherever he lived, Mr. Barter was active in the United Methodist Church, singing in the choirs of Fullerton First United Methodist Church and Salmon Creek United Methodist Church. Mr. Barter's love of the mountains was a constant in his life. He passed that love on to his children during summer camping trips. He continued to hike and backpack into his 80's. Mr. Barter is survived by his six children and their spouses, six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. We will remember and celebrate Mr. Barter's life on November 9, 2013 at Salmon Creek United Methodist Church, Vancouver, WA.
