Sewitsky, Mamie Louise Lane, of Garden Grove, died peacefully on December 30, 2012 at the age of 87. Born July 5, 1925 in San Angelo, Texas, she spent her formative years in Texas where she met the love of her life, Michael, during WWII. They married in 1946 and eventually moved to Garden Grove where they have resided since 1959.|
Louise was a member of the Garden Grove Emblem Club for over 50 years where she held the rank of President in 1969-1970. She was also a member of the Garden Grove Assistance League and held the office of Vice President.
Her hobbies were dancing, which transitioned into teaching. She taught Tap, Ballet and Jazz for 25 years and then began to teach Polynesian dancing to older adults. She and her Hoaloka Dancers provided entertainment at many variety shows and for Nursing homes over the years. Louise and her husband were active members of St. Barbara's Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister.
Louise had a relationship with her many friends and family members that was filled with love. She will be remembered for her zest and love of life. She lived each and every day of her 87 years with grace, elegance and joy. She leaves behind a legacy of self sacrifice for her family, always putting their needs first.
Surviving her are her seven children, Ann McCleary of Asheville, N.C., Michael Sewitsky, of Jacksonville, Ore., Mark Sewitsky, of Svelvik, Norway, Alicia Wood, of Redlands, Calif, Gary Sewitsky of Jefferson City, Tenn, Jon Sewitsky of Trabuco Canyon, Calif and David Sewitsky of Temecula, Calif. In addition, she is survived by 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends for a visitation on January 4th at 10 AM at St. Barbara's Church, located at 730 S. Euclid Street, Santa Ana, CA 92704. Mass will follow at 11 AM. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery located in Cypress immediately after. A reception and celebration of Louise life, will take place 2 to 4 PM, January 4th at the Elks Lodge in Garden Grove, located at 11551 Trask Ave, Garden Grove, CA 92843. This will be hosted by Louise's beloved Emblem Club of which she was a member of many years.
