NORVAL WILLIAM CASEY Obituary
Casey, Norval William

1946-2013

Casey, Norval William "Bill" passed unexpectedly in his sleep in mid July of this year at the age of 67. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louie Norval Casey and mother, Margaret Geraldine (née Francis). Survivors include his brothers, Michael Casey, John Casey of Carlsbad, CA and sisters, Moira Casey of Shasta, CA and Pati Harrison of Temple City, CA. Additionally, Bill is survived by 4 nephews: Ryan Harrison of Ft. Stewart, GA, Casey Harrison of Temple City, CA and Alex and Christopher Merkle of Shasta, CA and a great nephew, Ryan Harrison of Rancho Cucamonga, CA.

Bill, a member of MENSA, will be remembered for his wit and razor sharp memory. An avid reader, he had a breath of knowledge that was hard to rival. From an early age he held a special fondness for sci-fi. In fact, he was writing a novel on Atlantis before his untimely death.

After attending Old Dominion College, Mira Costa Community College and UCLA, Bill enlisted in the army. He applied for and was accepted into the Army's Special Forces as a Green Beret. He chose to train as a medic. Upon returning to the private sector, he was encouraged to take the California registered nursing licensure exam even though technically he had not attended nursing school. Despite that, the skills and knowledge he acquired in the army as a medic proved that he did indeed have what it took to pass the exam. In fact, he did so with flying colors. He later returned to Cal State Fullerton and received a BS in nursing. Bill chose to work the graveyard shift in the ER. A very pragmatic individual, he had to admit that a full moon definitely had a distinct influence on the clientele seeking medical care in the early hours of the morning. Even after retirement, Bill continued to maintain the nocturnal hours he adjusted to in the profession he loved.

This gentle soul will be laid to rest in the Northern California Veterans' Cemetery in Igo on November 27, 2013.
