ROBERT DAVID "BOB" STRICKLER Obituary
Strickler, Robert David "Bob", 86, of Orange, California passed away peacefully in his sleep and entered Heaven on March 22, 2014. He waged a tenacious battle against kidney disease for over 6 years; the last three years receiving kidney dialysis three days a week.

Bob was born in Rossville, Illinois to Robert Davis & Verna (Talbott) Strickler. In his preschool years, during The Great Depression, his family migrated to Berkeley, CA where he rode his tricycle unsupervised on the sidewalks of The University of California, Berkeley campus. He lived most of his teenage years in Marshalltown, Iowa before moving to Ohio. After graduating from Upper Arlington High School in Columbus, Ohio he was drafted and served our country in the U.S. Army. Bob's alma mater was Ohio State University (Go Buckeyes!) and he also attended The University of Arizona, Tucson for a year. During college he married Ruth Ann Spires and was not only the father of, but a "Dad" to 5 children. In 1966 he moved his family to Orange, California and never looked back on shoveling snow or humid summers. Bob's career spanned 56 years in the Residential HVAC Industry; 35 of which were as a successful business owner in Southern California. He had a great sense of humor, a quick wit and made others feel good about themselves. He loved to dress well, wearing French cuff shirts, silk ties and especially well polished shoes. Bob was an avid reader, a health enthusiast and enjoyed tending his garden which included seasonal vegetables and nine California fruit trees.

He is preceded in death by his parents and only sibling, Patricia Filkins. Bob is survived by Ruth Ann (Spires) Strickler, his loving and devoted wife of over 65 years; sons, Stephen R. Strickler and Robert D. (Alejandra) Strickler; daughters, Vicki A. Strickler, Carey Lee (Arn) Mosbrucker and Roxanne (Aaron) Gould. He is also survived by 13 grand, great-grand, step-grand, and step-great-grandchildren; nephew, David Filkins; and niece, Jean Filkins.

Instead of a public memorial Bob requested cremation and for his family to carry on with their lives. Donations may be made in Bob's memory to The University of Washington Kidney Research Institute Gift Fund noted specifically to advance Wearable Artificial Kidney (WAK) research 1-866-633-2586.
