Toman, Susan F.

Oakland-
Susan F. Toman of Brea, California and Oakland, Maine, passed away on April 28th, 2013 in Augusta, Maine at the MaineGeneram Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Facility at Gray Birch with her husband at her side. She was born October 1, 1936 in Bloomington, Illinois, the daughter of Raymond E. French and Irene (Flenniken) French. She was predeceased by her parents.

She graduated from Northwestern University and earned a Master's degree in history from Arizona State University. She was a college administrator, serving as Director of Employee Relations. She retired from teaching history at Rio Honda College in Whittier, California in 1998.

Susan was a member of the American Association of University Women, American Philatelic Society, Maine Old Cemetery Association, Rio Honda Emeriti Association, St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Fullerton, California and numerous historical societies. She also enjoyed summer membership in St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Waterville, Maine and especially participating in the Martha Guild and Prayer Shawl Ministry.

She was very interested in genealogy and a member of several genealogy societies. Following her interest in this she researched and wrote family histories for each of her four grandparents.

Survivors include her husband, James L. Toman; her brother, Joe French and his wife Peg; a son, Kevin and his wife Diane; a daughter, Peggy (Toman) Grant; Dan Grant; and grandchildren, Ian and Julie; three daughters of Susan's cousins Helen and Dean French Newbury: Anita Wilson, Lynnea Brodeur and Nancy Newbury.

Susan's life will be celebrated in a memorial service to be held on Friday May 10, 2013 at 11am at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Eustis Ave, Waterville, Maine.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to either churches named above or to the . Arrangements are under the care of Staples Funeral Home
