Stephen James Manassero Obituary
Manassero, Stephen James, died peacefully in his home on November 15, 2013 in Placentia, California. Stephen was born January 4, 1926 in Yorba Linda. He spent his lifetime in Orange County, raising his family and making contributions to the field of farming. Stephen graduated class of 1943 from Valencia High School. He attended Fullerton Junior College and went on to graduate from the University of California, Los Angeles. He studied agriculture, which in turn, helped prepare him for a lifelong career in farming. Stephen grew strawberries and other produce locally, retiring in 1985. Committed to local agriculture, he was active in the field, serving as a board member, chairperson, and president for the Strawberry Commission during his lifetime. Stephen was a well-respected member of the local farming community. Proud of his heritage, Stephen was a first generation Italian-American. His parents James Manassero and Brigida Olocco Manassero emigrated from Bene Vagienna, Northern Italy. Stephen enjoyed family gatherings, ranging from holiday dinners to ravioli and sausage making parties. Stephen loved his home filled with his children and grandchildren. Impromptu visitors were welcomed with open arms. His home never lacked for lunchtime guests, who were greeted with a menu of foods to choose from. Stephen would not have had it any other way as he was the consummate host. He and his wife had the fortune of traveling to several continents. Travel was an important experience Stephen encouraged all family members to have. Stephen was an avid reader who enjoyed learning about a multitude of topics. He embodied lifelong learning and placed a high value on education. Stephen is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Lorraine Montijo Manassero; his six children, Stephen, Daniel, John, Camille, Richard and Robert; as well as his sister, Inez Manassero Boisseranc; and brother, Matthew Manassero. He was predeceased by his brother, James Manassero. He and Lorraine were blessed to have 26 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren over the course of their marriage. His family and friends will remember his fairness, sense of humor, and unconditional love for his family. Stephen demonstrated unwavering faith in others and exemplified generosity. Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21 at St. Martin de Porres Church, Yorba Linda. McAulay & Wallace Mortuary
