Walter Thomas Cleary Jr., passed peacefully on Tuesday August 27, 2013 at the Veterans Hospital in Long Beach, California from complications with Pneumonia. He was born on March 26, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois and moved to California with his family in 1946. He attended Compton College where he was a member of Alpha Sigma Chi. He joined the United States Air Force serving in the Air Police and was stationed in England. He attended California State University Long Beach where he earned a Business Bachelor of Arts degree in 1957 and also a Business Administration Master of Science degree in 1960. He and his family resided in Fullerton. He was a claims adjuster for Travelers Insurance, and then held management positions at several companies including Minute Maid, Williams Furnace and Alcoa; retiring in 1990. He was active in the Boy Scouts, taught Introduction to Business classes at Coastline Community College District, and was a hospice and church volunteer. He enjoyed reading, travel and creative writing. He and Gwen moved to Apple Valley in 2005 where he participated in various activities in his community such as Bible Study, Book Club, and the Del Webb Sun City Apple Valley Finance Committee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Sr and Mae; his sister, Mary Ann; and second wife, Dorothy. He is survived by his loving partner, Gwen and family; sons, Paul, Michael and wife Zhuping; daughter, Theresa Cullen; six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; first wife, Sylvia Holland; sister-in-law, Barbara Epstein and family; brother-in-law, Gus Lipnisky and family; and the children of Dorothy. Memorial service will be September 28, 2013 at 11:00 am at Ascension Lutheran Church, 22130 Ottawa Road, Apple Valley, CA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to
