1930 - 2013 | Notice Condolences
HUNTER, JR., DANIEL MADISON passed away at his home in Winter Park, Florida on November 21, 2013. Dan was born in West Palm Beach, Florida on March 12, 1930 to Mary Thompson Hunter and Daniel Madison Hunter. Following graduation from Miami Edison High School in 1948, he attended the University of Florida, where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He played football for the University of Florida from 1949-1953. After college and service in the Marine Corps, Dan attended the University of Florida School of Law. Following his graduation in 1957, he moved to Winter Park to begin his practice of law. He was a member of the Florida Bar for 57 years. An active community member, Dan was a City-Commissioner and Mayor of the City of Winter Park. He also served as President of the Winter Park Rotary Club, the Winter Park Community Club and the Episcopal Church Men of All Saint's Episcopal Church. He was on the Board of Directors of the Central Florida YMCA, the Winter Park Rotary Club, the Orange County United Appeal, the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce and the Winter Park Community Chest. In addition, he was a member and Director of the Orange County Committee of One Hundred, as well as a founding member of Interlachen Country Club. Dan was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his five children, Dabney Hunter McKenzie (Rick), Virginia Hunter Petsos (Nick), Robin Hunter Floyd (Jim), Daniel Madison Hunter, III (Jeannine), and Christopher Taylor Hunter. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, as well as his companion, Cynthia Mortensen. The family requests that any memorial donations be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 230 East Ohio Street, Suite 304, Chicago, IL 60611-3201. A private family graveside service will take place in Winter Park. The family will receive friends at 2 PM on Dec. 2, 2013 at The Winter Park Country Club, 761 Old England Avenue to celebrate his life.
