DAVID LEE PEOPLES Notice
PEOPLES, DAVID LEE "" passed away Saturday, July 6, in his home surrounded by family. David was born on January 3, 1931 in St. Louis, Missouri. After completing his education, he joined the United States Air Force. He moved to Washington, D.C., and at the age of 25 he started his own real estate brokerage firm. After moving to Orlando in 1975 he started his own travel career school, Southeastern Academy. He purchased a hotel in Kissimmee, FL, and converted it into a beautiful school campus. Southeastern Academy graduated over 10,000 students, providing them with career training, a sense of direction and purpose, and entry into the exciting travel industry. He later acquired another post-secondary school in Orlando, Southern College. David served for many years either as a member, or later, Chairman, of the Florida Licensing Board for Private Colleges and Schools; the Florida Association of Private Colleges and Schools; and the national accrediting agency for private colleges and schools. David developed and operated other businesses including the Orange Quarter restaurant and shops in downtown Orlando, and the Courtyard on Broadway in Kissimmee. He developed Benchmark Mountain in Highlands, NC. David was a member of the Orlando Downtown Development Board; PESO; and the Osceola County Chamber of Commerce. He was a Board Member of First State Savings & Loan; the Florida Hospital East Foundation; and the Loch Haven Museum of Art. In his 'retirement' he was a broker member of the Orlando Regional Realtors Association, and a member of both the Florida and National Associations of Realtors, and was awarded the Five Star Real Estate Agent designation for the past five years. David is survived by his wife, Anne; his four sons Keith, Brian, Paul, and Bruce Peoples; his two step daughters, Kimberlee Smith and Jill Schwartz; three daughters-in-law Nancy, Lauri, and Diane Peoples; and six grandchildren. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 13, at 10:30 AM at the Baldwin-Fairchild Ivanhoe Chapel, located at 301 NE Ivanhoe Boulevard, Orlando, FL. A reception will be held after the service at the Winter Park Racquet Club from 12:00 to 2:00 PM, at 2111 Via Tuscany, Winter Park, Florida. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Hospice of the Comforter would be appreciated.
