Dennis McDougall Notice
McDougall, Dennis Dennis Dale McDougall, 67, died 28 July 2014. Dennis was born in Albany, New York, traveled with a military family, and graduated from Frankfurt American High School in Frankfurt, Germany. He joined the U.S. Army in 1966, attended Officer Candidate School and commissioned in 1967. Dennis was a proud Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with the 9th Infantry Division in the Mekong Delta. As a platoon leader he received the Silver Star for heroism, the Purple Heart for wounds received and the Vietnam Cross for Gallantry as well as other decorations. He left the service as a Captain. During a time of national apathy towards returning veterans, Dennis joined Vietnam Veterans of America. As his chapter's president, he worked tirelessly to change the lack of recognition and respect vets then received. His passion was the Vietnam Memorial in Washington. When "The Wall" was finally dedicated, Dennis was there. Although his name will not be inscribed on the black granite, his spirit will remain a part of those that are. In 2010 Dennis was reacquainted with Joyce Bates of Orlando, Florida at an annual Frankfurt American High School reunion and they married on St Patrick's Day, 2012. Dennis and Joyce enjoyed traveling to various military and high school reunions around the country, cooking and just spending time together. Dennis is survived by his wife Joyce of Orlando, FL and his brother William (Nancy) of Stamford, CT. Dennis will be interred in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors, not far from "The Wall", a soldier amongst his brethren
