Eugene "Rex" Rex M.D. F.A.C.S. Notice
Rex M.D. F.A.C.S., Eugene RexEugene Braiden Rex, M.D., F.A.C.S. ("Rex"), passed away peacefully on April 5, 2014 in Winter Park, Florida. He was born on August 26, 1922, in Alamosa, Colorado, to Nell Milyard and James Eugene Braiden, and was later adopted by Dr. Clifford Paul Rex. Rex graduated from Wentworth Military Academy, Lexington, Missouri, in 1942, and married Julia Pearl Looper ("Julie") in 1945. He served in the United States Army as a Lieutenant in the 112th Regiment, 28th Infantry and fought in five campaigns, including the Battle of the Bulge, receiving many awards for valor. After military service, Rex attended Vanderbilt University, University of Maryland Medical School and residency at University of Pennsylvania. He was a world-class ear surgeon who practiced at Lankenau Hospital in suburban Philadelphia for 28 years, ultimately becoming Chief of Otolaryngology. In 1985, Dr. Rex received the Distinguished Service Award from the Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology and was named Otolaryngologist of the Year. He and Julie retired to Austin, Texas, where he pursued golf and investment activities for 15 years. In 2005, following Julie's death after sixty years of marriage, he moved to Orlando, Florida, to spend time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter Braiden Rex-Johnson and husband Spencer Johnson, of Seattle, Washington; his son Brad Rex and wife Nancy, of Orlando, Florida; and grandchildren James, Monica, and Natalie Rex.
