Becker Jr. MD, Jasper "Jappy"died on April 2, 2014 in Orlando, Florida at the age of 79. He was the son of Jasper Becker, Sr. and Eloise Tippins Becker. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn James Becker; his sisters Marjorie O'Shaughnessy of Macon and Judith Andry of New Orleans; his children Jeanie Taylor, Jasper Becker III, Benjamin Becker, Amy Becker, and Elizabeth Becker; stepchildren Rafe Quinn and Sheralee Faith; and also numerous grandchildren. Also remembered are Gregory Wallace, infant son, and step-daughter Loren Quinn, both deceased. Jasper graduated from Brookhaven High School, class of 1952; Washington and Lee, (BS, class of 1956); and Tulane University (MD, class of 1960). He interned at Charity Hospital of New Orleans, 1960-1961, and completed his Urology Residency at Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans, 1961-1965. He served in the US Army Medical Corp, 1966-1968 with one year in Viet Nam with the 93rd Evac Hospital. Dr. Becker had a private urology practice in his hometown of Brookhaven, Mississippi, from 1968-1983. He later practiced in Orlando from 1984-1994, and then worked for VA Urology from 1994-1996. After retirement from active medical practice, Dr. Becker studied medical coding and billing and formed a patient advocacy company devoted to help reduce the cost of medical care. He also served as a volunteer interviewer of prospective students at UCF College of Medicine. His main physical activity for many years has been golf, and he is especially appreciative of his golfing companions both in Florida and Mississippi. In 1992 Dr. Becker, his wife at this time, Katherine Quinn, and others formed the Loren Quinn Institute, named after his stepdaughter Loren who was killed in a car accident at age 14. This Attitudinal Healing Center, modeled after Dr. Jerry Jampolski's Center in Tiburon, California, was inspired by the teachings of A Course in Miracles. Dr. Becker was later a member of the board of Attitudinal Healing International. Dr. Becker believed in a holistic approach to medical care and worked with Dierdra Brigham at Getting Well, Inc. in Orlando. He has many friends involved in metaphysical study, particularly A Course in Miracles. He was raised in the Catholic faith, and since 1992 has been a member of Unity which most closely espouses his Christian belief in divine Oneness and non-duality. Dr. Becker wrote and published Divine Health. He founded On the Wind Publishers and edited and published spiritually inspired works by Sheralee Faith: Spirits Calling and Sourcing the Divine. He married Marilyn James in 2004, and they have had an exciting, loving, caring companionship with many meaningful adventures over the past ten years. Jasper Becker is grateful for his life. "I feel this is a fabulous time to be alive on Earth as it seems to be a time of fantastic awakening and I am enjoying observing and participating in these events." A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Baldwin-Fairchild Oaklawn Chapel, 5000 County Road 46A, Sanford, FL 32771. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Unity Center for Positive Living, 1239 S. US Hwy 17-92, Longwood, FL 32750.
