Lois Nester Notice
Nester, Lois Lois Marie (Datesman) Nester, 85, of Eustis, FL and formerly of Pen Argyl, PA went home to Heaven on Wednesday, March 26, 2014. Lois Nester was born in Bangor, Pennsylvania on November 1, 1928. She was the only child born to John D. and Hattie F. (Mack) Datesman. Lois graduated as valedictorian from Bangor High School in 1946 and served as secretary for class reunions. Lois attended Bloomsburg State Teachers College. She was a member of the B Club, the Business Education Club, Future Teachers of America, Kappa Delta Pi National Honor Society, and Pi Omega Pi Professional Business Education Society. She graduated in 1949 with a B.S. degree in Business Education. She was active in the Bloomsburg University Alumni Association. She received her Master of Arts degree in Business Education from New York University in 1953, where she was a member of Delta Pi Epsilon Business Education Society. Lois taught Business Education subjects at Bangor Area Schools for 30 years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of the Bangor Area Education Association, the Pennsylvania State Education Association, and the National Education Association. She was the advisor of the Business Education Club in Bangor. She was a member of Morrison United Methodist Church of Leesburg, FL, and a former member of Grace United Methodist Church of Pen Argyl, PA. She served on the Administrative Board at Grace church, was a member of the United Methodist Women-serving as president for 9 years, and was an officer of the Allentown District United Methodist Women. She was active in community activities, including Pen Argyl PTA, Slate Belt AARP-where she was a pianist, Meals on Wheels, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, and the Pen Argyl Woman's Club-where she received the first Volunteer of the Year award. An avid traveler, she visited many of the 50 states and numerous countries on 6 continents of the world. She was an accomplished pianist and vocalist. Lois authored and published the book, Lady of Faith, in 1987. It is a biography about her late mother, Hattie Datesman. Lois will be remembered by family and friends as an energetic woman with a loving heart. Lois was predeceased by her husband, Wilmer F. Nester, whom she married August 26, 1950. She is survived by her son Larry (Sharon) of Eustis, Florida. She is also survived by brothers-in-law E. Vernon Nester, Raymond (Ethel) Nester, Kermit (Jean) Nester, Carl Lorish, and sisters-in-law Annabelle Buss, Mae Wentz-Nicholas (Ken), Stella Nester, Marge Nester, as well as a large number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 4, 2014, at 1 PM at Grace United Methodist Church, 404 E. Mountain Avenue, Pen Argyl, PA, with the Rev. Eric S. Ritz officiating. There will be a calling hour beginning a 12 PM until time of services Friday at the church. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Bangor, PA.
