Patricia Haggard Holdcraft Notice
Holdcraft, Patricia Haggardwas re-united with our Creator and Lord on October 30th, 2013. She was 74 years old. Born, raised and having lived most of her life in Miami, she and her husband Tom retired to Central Florida six years ago. At the time of her passing she was surrounded by her loving family. Patricia met Tom in high school at Coral Gables High. She graduated from Vanderbilt University Phi Beta Kappa where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority, as was her daughter after her. An accomplished actress, Patricia was invited to Summer Stock in London but decided instead to marry and start a family. Patricia earned a Master's degree from the University of Florida. Patricia taught English at the University of Miami, was active in philanthropic organizations and was a member of Coral Gables United Methodist Church. Patricia was a devoted wife to Tom and a wonderful mother to children Curtis Mase and Daryl Place. She was "Grammie" to her eight grandchildren whom she adored. Patricia especially loved the holidays and spending time with the ones she loved. She loved to play with her grandchildren and surprised both them and her children with the adventurous things she did with them. Some of the grandchildren's favorite memories include: climbing up on the roof of her house in the wee hours of the morning to stargaze, standing on top of a wall awaiting their arrival, trips to the Parrot Jungle, watching the sunrise at the beach, swimming with the dolphins, scavenger hunts, and making and eating her homemade fudge sauce. She instilled her love of reading in each of her grandchildren and read and discussed their favorite books as long as she was able. Affectionately nick named "fat pat the water rat" by her brother Andy, Patricia grew up on and enjoyed the water all her life. She was an avid water skier and lifelong boater. She loved literature, music, roses and orchids. Her grandchildren say she always smelled like roses. She found beauty in simple things, laughed easily and often-including at herself. Patricia looked past the faults in others, always seeing the best and bringing it into the light. She was a woman of grace, something which was most apparent in her handling of the disease which took her from us. Patricia is survived by her husband Charles Thomas "Tom" Holdcraft, son Curtis Mase (Monica), daughter Daryl Place (married to Alex), step-children Elizabeth Mertz (married to Tom) and Thomas Holdcraft (married to Colleen), brother William Andrew Haggard and her eight grandchildren: Samantha Mase, Parker, Lee, and Easton Place, Kyle Mertz, and Davis, Wesley, and Jonas Holdcraft. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Winter Park in Winter Park, Florida on Monday, November 4th, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. The Reverend Riley Short, a lifelong friend of Patricia's, will officiate. A reception will follow the service at the Winter Park Racquet Club. Patricia's cremains will someday be mixed with her husband Tom's and spread over Biscayne Bay. As an alternative to flowers, the family suggests donation to the Alzheimer's & Dementia Resource Center, 1506 Lake Highland Drive, Orlando, FL 32803; (www.adrccares.org).
