RAWES, Ian Richard
Ian Richard Rawes (born Southampton, England on August 19, 1953) beloved son of Jack and Janet Rawes, and extremely proud father of Vaughan, embraced by the love of his family, passed away in Ottawa (February 21, 2013). Ian was predeceased by his cherished wife, Suzi, daughter of Ruth and Murray (deceased) Sklar of Toronto. Left to mourn a wonderful brother, and to carry on his goals, are Jacqueline, Alyson, Bernice (Dave), Marilyn Ricketts (Nick), Kenneth (Frances), and Laura-Anne. Ian was much loved and admired by his many nieces, nephews and cousins. Ian was an athlete and music enthusiast who loved the outdoors. He felt privileged to have been involved in the Olympic movement with participation in Calgary, Lake Placid and Sarajevo and the International Olympic Academy, to have been Saskatchewan's Cross-Country Ski Coach, active with Sports Canada and an instructor of coaches. His family is most proud of the incredible job he did of raising an amazing son. Thanks to all members of the Ottawa medical community (especially Drs. H. Atkins, J. Werier and R. MacLean) who supported him in his valiant fight with cancer and gave him extra years with his son.
