Susan Goodman August 12, 1951-August 30, 2013

Dr. Susan F. Goodman passed away surrounded by family at North York General Hospital in Toronto on Friday, August 30, our special hero. Susan was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on August 12, 1951, the daughter of Roselle Green and the late Dr. Saul Green of Halifax. She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Carleton University in Ottawa and her Masters and PhD from the University of Toronto. Susan was a highly respected administrator and educator at both Humber College and later at George Brown College where she was Chair of the Departments of Recreation and Hospitality. Susan served on the board of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (Ontario) for several years, just one of the many causes to which she was deeply committed.

She leaves Gerry Goodman, her loyal and caring husband of almost 40 years, a loving partner in travel, athletics and life. Susan never forgot her Nova Scotia roots. She visited family often and still had close ties to the community. Susan was a lifelong athlete-a lifeguard, marathoner, swimmer, cross country skier, cyclist, tennis player, and golfer. Her competitive nature also crossed into the world of cards, most recently Bridge and she would be happy if you rooted for the Jays next season. She was a loyal and generous friend, colleague, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, special cousin and godmother. Most of all, she enjoyed the company of her family. In addition to her husband, she leaves her mother, Roselle Green of Halifax, sister Marcia Aronson and brother-in-law Steve Aronson of Ottawa, brother Howard Green and sister-in-law Lynne Heller of Toronto, brother Morris Green of Halifax. She also leaves nephew Michael Aronson (Dawn) and niece Rachel Aronson and beloved cousins Dwight and Selma Copeland, Daniel (fiancé, Corrine) and Jordan (Ainsley) Copeland and Grayson. She leaves many relatives including members of the Jacobs family of Toronto.

It's our hope that Susan will be remembered for a life rich in accomplishments, kindness and love of family and friends.

Susan always found ways to practice Tikkun Olam. The family would like to thank the caring staff at North York General Hospital; JoAnne Futter and her team, Dr. Paula Fishman, Steve and Shari, Annette and many others throughout the hospital. Donations may be made to Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (416) 815-1313 or to a charity of your choice. Funeral was held on Monday, September 2 at Benjamin's Park Memorial Chapel in Toronto.
