After they married in Muir Woods California they travelled throughout Europe and North Africa. On their return he began working for the California State Parks in various locations, first as a Ranger, then later as a Historian. Their three children were born in California. When he obtained work with Parks Canada as a Historian/Curator he worked throughout the country but made his home in Ottawa.
