In 1957 they moved to Midland, where they owned and operated "Jim Miller's Men's Shop," at the site of the current Chemical Bank on Main St., for more than 25 years. Barbara assisted with the business as she raised her family and participated in community activities.
Barbara was a long term member of the Midland Hospital Auxiliary. She had many friends and enjoyed socializing. Her many activities included bridge club, sewing, square dancing and cooking. Her English ginger bread was famously enjoyed from coast to coast!

In her later years, she did additional retail work at Knepp's Department Store and J.C. Penney, both in Midland. After her husband's death, she resided at Riverside Place Apartments in Midland.
