Gerald C. Ilsley, 84, of Aiken, S.C., formerly of Midland, died June 12, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born March 1, 1929, in Biloxi, Miss., to the late Ned and Evelyn (Mills) Ilsley. He graduated from Alpena High School, Alpena, in 1948.
Gerald was a U.S. Navy
veteran, serving during the Korean conflict
from October 1948 to August 1952. He graduated from the Machinist Apprenticeship Program at Besser Manufacturing, Alpena, in July 1956. He became an employee at The Dow Chemical Co. in 1957, from where he retired in 1986 as a master tradesman/toolmaker. Upon retiring, he moved to Port Charlotte, Fla., where he lived for 19 years before moving to Aiken, S.C.
Gerald married Phyllis Christiansen on June 27, 1953. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aiken, S.C.
Surviving are his wife; and daughter, Linda McComb (Michael); two brothers, Kenneth (Marge), Gary (Margo); sister-in-law, Anne Ilsley all of Alpena; and several nieces and nephews. His parents; son, Thomas; and brothers, Donald, Robert and Dale preceded him in death.
Friends may call at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home on Sunday, June 23, 2013, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., and at Trinity Lutheran Church on Monday, June 24, 2013, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with The Rev. Gerald Ferguson officiating. The committal will take place at the Midland Cemetery.
