Our husband, father, dad, papa and grandpa, Harry Gary, 81 years old, of Beaverton, passed away at MidMichigan Medical Center in Midland, on Jan. 8, 2013, after a four month battle with lung cancer. He was born in Beaver Township, Bay County, on Nov. 21, 1931, to Floyd Otis and Laura May (Bedell) Gary. He married the former Brenda Mularz, at St. Brigid Church in Midland, on June 16, 1956, and they had 56 wonderful years together.
Harry served in the U.S Army from January 1949-June 1952 with the First Cavalry 61st Field Artillery, Battery A during the Korean War
and was a member of Kawkawlin VFW
6950. He worked at Saginaw Steering Gear from 1964-1991 as a tool troubleshooter.
Since 2001, Harry and Brenda have enjoyed "life on the lake" by living on Wixom Lake on the Tobacco River side in Beaverton. During the summer, Harry enjoyed having his children and grandchildren at the "cabin" enjoying boating, swimming and jokes around the campfire. During the long cold Michigan winters, Harry and Brenda were snowbirds and travelled to Florida to be with their friends at the Florida Camp Inn. He belonged to the Florida Camp Inn Horseshoe Club where he pitched two perfect games. During the summer months, Harry enjoyed playing golf with his buddies at all the local golf courses. He leaves a loving legacy no one will forget.
Harry is survived by his wife, Brenda; daughters, Lezley (Rick) Grzegorczyk of Kawkawlin, Gayle Owens of Midland, Margo Cieslinski of Frankenmuth; sons, Nick (Lisa) Gary of Kawkawlin and Mark (DeAnna) Gary of Beaverton. Harry is also survived by his grandchildren, Doug, Matt (Jayme), Todd (fiancÃ©e Nicole Durham), Drew and Alaina Grzegorczyk, Jessica (Matt) Robinson and Bryan Owens, Ashley (Dan) Graves, Stephanie (fiancÃ©e Nate McIntee-Chmielewski ), Eric and Tim Cieslinski, Melissa (Vic) Talaga, David (Nichole) Frick, Samantha Gary and Dylan and Morgan Gary. Also, by great-granchildren, Vance and Delaney Grzegorczyk, Gavin, Jacob and Chloe Graves, Jocelyn and Bryce Talaga and Waylon Frick. Surviving are sisters, Velma Steinka and Irene MacKenzie; and many nieces and nephews. Harry was preceded in death by his parents; also, brothers, Floyd and Walter; sisters, Ruby Crawford, Alice Richardson, Ruth Steinka and Dorothy Martin.
The funeral liturgy will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, 2510 S. Fraser Road at Beaver Road, Kawkawlin, on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at 11 a.m. Fr. Chester J. Pilarski will officiate, with burial in Calvary Cemetery.
Harry's family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W. Wheeler St., today from 2-8 p.m., and at the church on Friday morning from 10 a.m. until time of mass. A vigil for the deceased will take place 7 p.m., this evening, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family will have envelopes available for Kawkawlin, VFW Post 6950 or for the wishes of the family.
