Ivan Ora Jewell, 74, of Midland, died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at Brittany Manor. He was born Feb. 20, 1939, in Midland County, son of the late George and Dorothy (Sawdey) Jewell. He attended Midland schools.
Ivan was a veteran
serving with the U.S. Navy
. He was a life member of the Midland V.F.W
. Post # 3651 and was past commander of the Midland AM VETS Post # 3662. He enjoyed bingo, doing jigsaw puzzles, baseball and spending time with his family and his friends at the V.F.W.
Ivan is survived by two sisters, Hazel (Dennis) Webster of Sanford and Dorothy King of Midland; by his special friend, Edna Gray of Midland; by a sister-in-law, Kathy Barber of Evart; by one aunt, Pearl Stutz of Hastings; and by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ivan was preceded in death by brothers, Harry, Floyd, Lloyd, Eli and Don; and by one sister, Dolly Mae.
Funeral services for Ivan will take place at 1 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, from the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W. Wheeler St. Chaplain Ken Burch will officiate. Ivan's family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 4-7 p.m. and on Thursday from 12 p.m. until time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Midland V.F.W. Post # 3651. Ivan's family would like to thank the staff at Brittany Manor, especially Andrea, and Heartland Hospice for their loving care of Ivan. Full military honors will be presented by the Midland Area Veterans.
