Jack E. Mainprize, of Freeland, passed away following a brief illness Monday evening, Dec. 9, 2013 at Covenant HealthCare-Cooper in Saginaw at the age of 90 years. Jack was born June 19, 1923, in Coleman, to the late Harry and Lena (Osmond) Mainprize, and has resided in this area all of his life.
Jack was a committed military man in the Army Air Corp., in which he was a member of the 8th Army Air Corp. 401st Bomber Group where he served from December 1941 until May of 1945. Jack was a member of V.F.W
. Post 6299 in Saginaw and the Free Masons.
On Aug. 23, 1946 Jack married Esther M. Sawatzki; she preceded him in death on Dec. 5, 1988. Jack is survived by two sons, Bill (Kim) Mainprize of Charles City, Iowa, Richard (Patricia) Mainprize of Freeland; and two daughters, Catherine Smith of South Lyons, and Karen Mainprize of Freeland. Six grandchildren, Aaron, Matthew, Adam, Megan, Sara, Daniel; and two great-grandchildren, Jack and Fiona, also survive Jack.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church, Freeland. The Rev. Robert G. Schmidt will officiate, with burial to follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Freeland. Friends may call at the Cunningham/Taylor Funeral Home, 310 E. Washington St. Freeland on Thursday 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m., and at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
