Mark Redford Svitil, 63, of Midland, died peacefully at his home Tuesday evening, Oct. 1, 2013, with his family at his
side after battling with cancer. He was born Sept. 23, 1950, in Quincy, Mass., son of the late Edward A. and Corinne (Redford) Svitil.
Mark is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Pamela Jane (Smith) formerly of Rutherford, N.J. In addition to his wife, Mark is survived by his children, daughter, Melissa Lynn Svitil; and son, Michael David Svitil; and by his granddaughter, Bethany Jane all of Midland. He is also survived by his brother, Edward Svitil of Georgia; and his aunt, Caroline (Redford) McDonald of Massachusetts; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Pamela C. (Svitil) Murphy of Nutley, N.J.; and an uncle, Anton Svitil of Arizona.
Mark retired after a successful 40-year career, having worked 13 years with The Dow Chemical Co. as a senior contract administration manager and had worked for Union Carbide for 27 years prior to that.
Mark had a caring heart for helping others by using his talents as a volunteer building homes with Habitat for Humanity of Bay City, to fighting fires as a volunteer firefighter
for the Rutherford Fire Department Truck Company in New Jersey. He enjoyed activities with his family as scout leader for his son's Boy Scout troop, attending cross country races for his daughter, fishing, traveling and riding his motorcycle.
A memorial service for Mark will take place at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 W. Wheeler St. Mark's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12 p.m. until time of the service.
