Merle "Allen" Storr Jr.

Mr. Merle "Allen" Storr, Jr., 86, of Grand Haven and Midland, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. He was born Nov. 20, 1926, in Grand Rapids, to Merle Sr. and Alice (Danhof) Storr.

Allen worked for The Dow Chemical Co. for over 30 years and retired in 1985. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a "car guy" and enjoyed tinkering with cars. He enjoyed day trips on Saturdays with his family, all over the state of Michigan and listening to classical music, especially organ music. He also played both piano and organ. He was a very proud University of Michigan graduate and fan.

On Sept. 22, 1956, he married the former Beatrice Hadley in Dearborn, and she survives him along with three children, Cliff (Lucia) Storr of DeWitt, Bill Storr of Green, Ohio and Nancy Storr of Medina, Ohio; two grandchildren, Ethan and Kelsey; and his beloved dog, "Duffie." He was preceded in death by his special cousin, Annabel Hess.

A funeral service for Allen will take place 11 a.m., Monday, April 1, 2013, at The Lee Chapel at Lake Forest Cemetery in Grand Haven, with The Rev. Daniel Anderson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior at the chapel. Memorial contributions in memory of Allen may be given to Harbor Humane Society of West Olive ( Please sign the family's online guest book at
