William J. Webb, 81, of Midland and former Saginaw resident, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, following a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease. The son of Floyd and Evelyn (Denison) Webb, Bill was born Oct. 27, 1931 in Saginaw. He graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1949. Bill married Doris E. Diebel, his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Aug. 15, 1953, in Elkton. She survives him.

Bill leased his first gas station at the corner of Atwater and Sheridan, in Saginaw, in 1951. In 1954, he took over Metzger's Service station at W. Michigan and Wheeler. This was the start of his gasoline and oil business. Bill acquired Metzger's Service stations and later the Charles Rath stations. He relocated his office to N. Niagara and expanded his business to include car washes and convenience stores. He had 14 stations located throughout Michigan's Lower Peninsula. The Rebel service stations were the first self-serve stations in the mid-Michigan area. Bill retired from the business in 1981 and eventually sold the business in 1986.

He remained active during his retirement, teaching business courses in Russia and giving tours at Sleeping Bear Dunes. He enjoyed golfing, sailing and clowns. Bill and Doris enjoyed many happy years enjoying the best that Florida and Leland had to offer. They also traveled extensively in their motor home. Bill was a member of the First Presbyterian and Venice Presbyterian Churches, Rotary Club in Saginaw and Venice, Shrine Club, Leland International Coffee Club, Leland Country Club, Germania Town & Country Club, State and National Oil Associations.

Surviving besides his wife, Doris, are four children, William J. Webb Jr. (Sally) of Bellingham, Wash., Robert J. Webb (Lori) of Midland, Ruth Ann St. John (Ronald) of Woodbridge, Va. and Tamara Stahle of Midland; nine grandchildren, Rachael Lundberg (Adam), Sarah Vincent (Jason Bauer), David Webb, Robin Allen (Trent), Meghann Webb (Arica Prunty), Katie Horning (Paul), Elizabeth Stahle (fiance' Josh Vander Klipp), Jennifer Stahle and Michael Vincent Jr.; four great-granddaughters, Lily and Ellie Rose Lundberg, Zoe Horning and Londyn Prunty Webb; a brother, Donald (Sue) of Lakewood, Ohio; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Sharon Diebel, Ann Ort, Jacqueline Diebel and William Keiser; and many nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Martiny; and several brother- and sisters-in-law.

Honoring Mr. Webb's wishes, cremation has taken place. Please join Bill's family to celebrate his life at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N.
