Daniel M. Baxter Obituary
DANIEL M. BAXTER Age 75, passed away on June 14 at his sister's home in Menifee, California. He was born on August 20, 1937, in Matador, Texas to the late John M. and Nelle K. Baxter. Dan grew up in Elsinore, California, where the family moved in 1947, and graduated from Elsinore Union High School in 1955. After graduation he worked for the Forestry Service for a year, then joined the United States Marine Corps with three other friends in 1956, serving until 1960. He later worked independently as a cement contractor until his retirement in 2002, and was a resident of the Elsinore/Quail Valley/Menifee area for 66 years, the last 42 of them in Menifee. A lifetime member of both the Lake Elsinore Sportsman's Association and the N.R.A., Dan loved spending his summers camped along the river in Antimony, Utah, and was quite skilled at making knives out of any hard metal or concrete trowels he could find, then crafting handles out of deer and elk antlers. He had an exceptional gift for storytelling, and also enjoyed fishing and trap shooting. Dan is survived by his two sons, John D. Baxter (Mary), and James T. Baxter (Heather), and three granddaughters, Samantha, Tracy, and Katie, along with his sister, Conna Monk, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A service of remembrance will be held at Miller-Jones Mortuary in Menifee, 26770 Murrieta Road, at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 28. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Loma Linda Children's Hospital, 11234 Anderson Street, Loma Linda, CA 92354.
