Donald Ivan Kelly Obituary
LT. COL. DONALD IVAN KELLY Age 78, passed away July 12, 2012 at Corona Regional Medical Center. He was born on February 8, 1934 in Westmoreland, TN and has been a resident of Corona, CA, since 1982 following his retirement from the United States Air Force. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Georgianna Kelly; brother John "Jay" Kelly; sister Eunice Lewis; sons, Michael and Dale Kelly; daughters Diana and Willow Kelly; and grandson, Patrick Henry Michael Kelly. Lt. Col. Kelly enlisted in the Air Force in 1953. In 1958, he was selected for Officer Candidate School from which he was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in 1959. Through a 28-year career, he served on two remote assignments to Alaska, a combat tour in Vietnam, and as an adviser to NATO. He was the recipient of a Bronze Star and the Meritorious Service Medal. Lt. Col. Kelly continued after the Air Force as a Systems Engineer with the former Hughes Electronics Corp. where he had assignments to Egypt, Pakistan and Germany. After retiring from Hughes in 1996, he remained very active, supporting Kiwanis International and the United Methodist Church. Lt. Col. Kelly was an avid musician and an admirer of classic American cars. Graveside services will be held at 12:00 on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Riverside National Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm at the United Methodist Church of Corona. Donations are being accepted to help fund the 100 Mile Club of Corona and a scholarship fund that Kiwanis Club of Corona has established in Lt. Col. Kelly's honor.
