Donna Weaver Obituary
DONNA WEAVER Sept 21, 1930 - May 10, 2013 Donna passed away at home while asleep. Her husband of sixty-two years was at her side. She was born in Tecumseh, Nebraska 9-21-30 as Donna A Singleton. She was a pipe liner's daughter during the depression and during her early years the family lived in many Midwestern cities. When she started high school, her mother Myrtle and sister Bonita settled in the Northeast section of Kansas City, MO. After high school she worked at Hallmark Cards where she met her future husband. They were married February 17, 1951 at the First Christian Church in North Kansas City, MO. They settled in Kansas City North and Smithville, MO and in 1962 moved to Canoga Park, CA. In 1974 they traveled the USA for a year and then bought and operated a campground in Lake Elsinore, CA. In 1978 they lived on Grand Bahama Island while Jim installed a missile tracking station for the US Navy. In December 1978 they moved to Riverside, CA. She and Jim became "Fire Buffs" taking food and drinks to firefighters during large fires. In 2001 she was named "Riverside Volunteer of the Year." They retired the Fire Buffs after thirty years but she is still fondly remembered as a part of the Fire Department family. She and Jim loved to travel and together visited all fifty states and eleven foreign countries. Her health was quite fragile for the last eight years after surviving congestive heart failure, acromegaly, diabetes and shingles. In January she was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, stage five, but refused dialysis. She is survived by her husband, sister, daughter, two grandsons, four great grandchildren and an extended family of a daughter, grandson and great granddaughter. She requested cremation with ashes to be scattered in a favorite location where "the buffalo roam." She also requested no services or memorials. She loved all animals, especially cocker spaniels, and requested any remembrances be made in her name to the wild animal rescue in Big Bear, CA: Big Bear Alpine Zoo, 43285 Goldmine Drive, Big Bear Lake, CA.
