PAUL LAWRENCE BARTLEY SR. Paul was born on November 9, 1938 to proud parents Raymond and Ruby Odella Venable Bartley. He died at age 74 at Carilion Roanake Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia on November 7, 2013. He was a resident of Riverside, CA. Paul grew up in Beckley, West Virginia. He graduated from Stratton High School in 1956. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force on May 27, 1956. While in the Armed Forces, he served as a Medical Service Nurse, Practical Technician and Air Force Recruiter. Paul was a veteran of the Vietnam War. On June 1, 1976, he retired with an honorable discharge as a Technical Sergeant. As a civilian, Paul was employed by the Department of Corrections as a Medical Technical Assistant in 1980, and retired on May 31, 1996. Paul was a member of the Riverside Host Lions Club International, and the California Correctional Peace Officer Association. He attended Park Avenue Missionary Baptist Church in Riverside, California. While at Park Avenue, he participated in the Laymen Auxiliary and sang in the male choir. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Ruby Odella Venable Bartley, brothers Lindsey Bartley, Raymond "Buck" Bartley, Bruce Bartley, Howard "Jimmy" Bartley and sister Lucy Bartley Baker. He leaves to mourn his earthly departure his beloved wife, Brenda Cyrus Bartley; two devoted and loving sons, his namesake Paul Lawrence (Lisa) Bartley, Jr. and Shawn (Christina) Bartley, Esq.; two step children, Janiene (Jason) Campbell MD, and Phillip Luke; two sisters Helen Deas and Sallie Cruz; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grand-children, 3 sisters-in-law; 1 brother-in-law; his cherished nieces and nephews and friends who traveled beside him. There will be an opportunity for viewing of the body Wednesday, November 20, 2013 from 4-8 pm at Acheson and Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary, 7944 Magnolia Ave., Riverside, CA. Family hour will be from 7-8pm. The funeral services will be on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at 11am at Park Ave. Missionary Baptist Church, 1910 Martin Luther King, Riverside, CA with Rev. L.E. Campbell officiating. It will be possible to view the body prior to the services from 10-11am. The burial services will take place immediately following the funeral at 1:45pm at the Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Ave., Riverside, CA.
