Robert Ray Hawley Obituary
ROBERT RAY HAWLEY Robert Ray Hawley, devoted husband and father, died in his home in Corona, CA, on June 2, 2014. He was 82. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sheila Lee Hawley, of Corona, CA; his only child, Dr. Gary C. Hawley; daughter-in-law, Dr. Suzanne R. Hawley; and grandsons Ethan R. Hawley and Sean R. Hawley; all of Wichita, KS. He is also survived by his extended family Amy and Bill Pierce, and their children, Carly and Paige, all of Riverside, CA; his dedicated caregiver of 2 years, Arnell San Jose, and his cherished dog and companion, Charlie. Bob was born on May 27, 1932, in New Orleans, LA, and was the oldest of three boys born to Colonel Ray Hawley and Lori Tree; brothers Dennis Hawley and Bill Hawley preceded him in death. Bob served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps in Korea during the Korean War. Following military service, he obtained a Bachelors of Science degree in geology from the University of Oklahoma and worked in the oil fields. However, he spent most of his work life as a hearing representative for the Travelers Insurance Co, retiring after 43 years. Following a heart attack in 1974, Bob became a long-distance runner and completed many marathons and enjoyed physical activity. His persistent spirit was a hallmark of his character. Through his other hobbies of computers, photography, and financial planning, he gave his time and talents to friends and loved ones. In everything he did, he showed great discipline. He was often seen in humble service to others, never expecting to get anything back in return. He will be remembered for his unrelenting commitment, patience, generosity, work ethic, and courage. He was best known for his love of reading (both mystery and suspense novels) and his deep devotion to his wife Sheila and their son, Gary. At Bob's humble request, there will be no formal service, but the family welcomes your stories about Bob.
