MACOMB - Alfred A. Waters, 75, of 934 Memorial Drive, Macomb, passed away at 1:41 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.
He was born on June 11, 1937, in Pontiac, Mich., to Arvin and Matilda Nichols Waters. He first married Judith Robertson. He then married Jacqueline Focht on Dec. 23, 1978, in Lake Orion, Mich.
He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline of Macomb; four sons, James (Barbara) Waters of Adrian, Mich., Brent Waters of Valencia, Calif., Greg (Christine) Waters of Yakima, Wash., and Alfred "Spike" (Meghan) Waters of Fort Riley, Kan.; three daughters, Deborah Woszczyne of Lapeer, Mich., Denise (Christopher) Rau of Valencia, Calif., and Erin (Elton) Trojniar of Macomb; 17 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Patricia Haskell.
Al lived in Michigan, Ohio, Alaska, South Dakota and North Dakota before moving to Macomb in 1990. He graduated with a B.A. and master's degree from Michigan State University. He was the director of career services at Western Illinois University, retiring in 2011.
He was a member of the Macomb Masonic Lodge No. 17 and a former member of Rotary.
Al loved life and enjoyed everyone he met. He loved God, his family and his country. He enjoyed playing crossword puzzles and working outside. He was the most generous and kind-hearted man. He will be dearly missed.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb, with the Rev. Michael Burdick officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Cremation rites will follow the services.
