CANTON - Allen E. Fisk, 77, of Lebanon, Ill., formerly of the Canton area, passed away at 9:50 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville, Ill.
He was born July 28, 1935, in Fulton County, Ill., to Harvey E. and Pearl (Tippey) Fisk. Both parents preceded him in death as well as two sisters, Helen Newell and Doris Clevenger.
Surviving are three sisters, Juanita Wright of Indian Wells, Calif., Norma Craig of Port Orchard, Wash., and Dorothy Busby of Macomb, Ill. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
At 17, Allen enlisted in the Navy and served four years. He worked at Caterpillar and other companies. Later, he enlisted in the Army, serving a combined total of 20 years in the military. Allen served two tours of duty in Vietnam as well as other assignments. At retirement he was a platoon sergeant.
After his discharge from the Army, Allen worked at Belleville East High School for 18 years as a janitor.
There will be no funeral. Cremation has been accorded. A military memorial will be held at Jefferson Barracks Cemetery in St. Louis at a later date where his ashes will be buried.
A special thank you to neighbors, Dale and Linda Agne, who took Allen to medical appointments, checked on him daily and helped in whatever way was needed.
Allen is missed by his dogs, Baby and Tessie, who were his constant companions.
