STREATOR - Bruce F. Hart, 76, of Streator died at 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2014, at his home.

Visitation for Bruce Hart will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2014, at the Park Presbyterian Church, 205 N. Vermillion St., Streator. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2014, at the church. Pastor Jane Esterline will officiate. Burial will follow the services in Riverview Cemetery. Full military rites, including honor guard, taps and flag folding, will be provided by members of the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign War Post 1492.

Bruce was born Dec. 21, 1937, in Streator, Ill., the son of Fred J. and Katheryne (Crowl) Hart. He married Janice Williams on Aug. 14, 1960, at Park Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Janice of Streator; their three children, Leslie H. (Van) Friederich of Goodfield, Ill., Todd W. (Shannon) Hart of Springfield, Ill., and Allan B. (Kim) Hart of Morton, Ill.; and grandchildren, Steven Hart, Jennifer Hart, Tristan Friederich, Luka Friederich, Justin Hart and Allayna Hart. He also is survived by his brother, Craig C. (Jane) Hart of Bloomington, Ill., and Scottsdale, Ariz.; sister, Nan J. (Jerry) Westwood of Lexington, Ky., and Naples, Fla.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1983 and his mother in 1996.

Bruce F. Hart attended Garfield Grade School and Streator High School, graduating in 1956. He attended the University of Illinois, graduating in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science/Finance. He was a first lieutenant in the United States Army from July of 1961 until December of 1962, stationed at Fort Knox.

When Bruce returned to Streator, he entered into the insurance business with his father. He spent 30 years in the banking business, retiring in 1992 from Streator Federal Savings and Loan/Champion Federal. He also worked in the real estate business as a broker for 47 years, starting and owning Hart Realty. In 1964, Bruce became associated with Heritage Manor Nursing Home with his brother, Craig, when the second home of Heritage was built in Streator. Heritage Health/Evergreen Place has been in Streator 50 years. Bruce served on the board of directors of Heritage Enterprises.

He and his wife, Janice, have been active members of the Park Presbyterian Church for more than 60 years, where he had spearheaded numerous appeals, as well as served on the Finance Committee.

Bruce was active in the Streator community, working with the Streator Area United Way for 51 years consecutive years. He received the Tom Wilson Award. He had served as president of the Riverview Cemetery board in Streator for 20 years, as well as being a consultant. Bruce was elected to the Streator City Council in April of 2007, and was currently serving his second term. Bruce was active member of Streator Rotary Club and Streator PBO Elks 591 Lodge. He was a former member of Streator Country Club, serving on the board and as president. He was a former member of Streator Family YMCA board and YMCA board of trustees. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, Kappa Kappa Chapter, at University of Illinois. He served a term as president.
