EAST PEORIA - Charles "Chuck" L. Arnold, 84, of Roseville, Calif., formerly of East Peoria, Ill., passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at his home.
He married Betty J. Carlson of East Peoria on July 10, 1948; they were married for 61 years. She preceded him in death on April 19, 2010.
Chuck was born Aug. 26, 1928, to Chester R. Arnold and Beulah B. (Boundy) Arnold in East Peoria.
He is survived by three sons, Randy (Beth Aitken), Greg (Sue Crump) of Peoria, Ill., and Vince (Kristen Camarena) of Roseville, Calif.; three grandsons, Mark (Kate) Arnold, Brad (Molly) Arnold of Peoria, Ill., and Michael Baughman. He is also survived by one brother, Robert (Lindy) Arnold of East Peoria, Ill.; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Chester R. Arnold of Victorville, Calif.
Chuck graduated "Class of 1946" from East Peoria High School, where he excelled both academically and in basketball and football.
He served in the U.S. Army at Camp Stoneman in Pittsburg, Calif., as a MP and firefighter. He was honorably discharged in 1948.
Chuck held several professions after leaving the Army, finally settling into his lifelong dream of being a firefighter. He served the community of East Peoria for more than 20 years.
Chuck retired as captain and assistant fire chief for the East Peoria Fire Department in 1983.
Chuck and Betty moved to Pine Island, Fla., and then relocated to Roseville, Calif., in 1986, where he resided until his death.
Graveside services and interment for Chuck and Betty will be Friday, July 26, at 11 a.m. at the Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria, Ill. The Rev. Doug Lightly will officiate. Military honors will be accorded.
