MORTON - Daniel P. "Dan" Eberle, 98, of Morton passed away at 5:05 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria.
He was born Jan. 18, 1916, in Speer, Ill., to Gottlob and Mary (Gehrig) Eberle. He married Cyrene Christner on Aug. 2, 1941, in Peoria.
Surviving are his wife, Cyrene Eberle of Morton; one daughter, Barbara (John) Seyller of Hawthorn Woods, Ill.; one son, Ken (Marla) Eberle of Morton; her son-in-law, Kim Hudson of East Peoria; four grandchildren, Andrew (Evelyn) Seyller, Kourtney Wittmer, and Ryan and Aaron Eberle; and one great-grandson, Charlie Daniel Wittmer.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Bonnie Hudson; four brothers; and eight sisters.
He was a World War II Army veteran.
Dan worked 35 years for Caterpillar Inc. in East Peoria, retiring as a general foreman in Building LL.
He was a member of the Arcadia Avenue Presbyterian Church of Peoria until the church merged with the First United Presbyterian Church in Peoria, where he and his wife have been members for 72 years. Dan served as an elder and was a member of the dartball team.
Dan and his wife spent 28 winters in Phoenix, Ariz., where he enjoyed playing shuffleboard, bocce ball and pool and going square dancing. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed attending games and watching games on TV.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton, with the Rev. Stephen McKinney-Whitaker officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Roberts Cemetery in Morton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to We- Care Inc. in Morton or to the First United Presbyterian Church in Peoria.
